The spring semester may have ended, but the Lindenwood University Theatre Department is still busy rehearsing its next production, the confusingly named “[title of show],” a musical comedy about two playwrights trying to put together a new musical in a hurry. The production will be on stage at Lindenwood’s Emerson Black Box Theater at 7:30 p.m. on June 10, 11 and 12.
Tickets cost $15 and are available at the Lindenwood University Box Office (636-949-4433) or online at www.lindenwood.edu/center. The Emerson Theater and the Box Office are located in Lindenwood’s J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts, located at 2300 West Clay Drive in St. Charles, one block west of First Capitol Drive in St. Charles.
The musical, with music and lyrics by Jeff Bowen and book by Hunter Bell, follows two struggling writers, coincidentally named Jeff and Hunter, writing a play about two guys writing a play. Hoping to beat a deadline that is a mere three weeks away, they enlist the help of their friends, Susan, Heidi, and Larry, to get the job done.
“To me, the concept itself is humorous,” said Nick Moramarco, who is directing the show as the final step toward completion of his master of fine arts degree in theatre directing. “The songs in the show are extremely witty, with very clever lyrics. The show has a laugh every minute, so at about 90 minutes, you are guaranteed to laugh about 90 times.”
The show contains adult language and sexual references and may not be suitable for younger audience members.
The cast includes Wes Jenkins as Jeff, Dominic Windsor as Hunter, Beth Wickenhauser as Susan, and Catherine Neuhart as Heidi. Stage manager is Natalie Smith. Choreography is by Jan Strzelec. Music direction is by Moramarco. Scenic design is by Tim Poertner. Lighting design is by Keith Baranowski, with sound design by J. Drew Mattney and costume design by Wes Jenkins.
