On August 28, Lindenwood University-Belleville will unveil its newest art exhibit, Olympic Retrospective: The Games, The Contests, and The Spirit on August 28. The exhibit will be open to the public from 1-5 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays and 10 a.m.- noon on Saturdays.
Comprised of 27-30 two-dimensional pieces and three sculptural pieces, the exhibit addresses all aspects of the Olympic Games and the intensity of the athletes. The work is part of the collection of Jack Scharr of Fine Arts Limited.
“In addition to having a variety of vibrant and dynamic pieces created by a number of artists from all over the world, most of the works will be available for purchase at special ‘Lindenwood only’ prices,” said Marsha Parker, director of theatre and coordinator of the traveling art gallery at Lindenwood Belleville.
Artist biographies and other interesting information will accompany the exhibit. Posters, prints, and lithographs by artists such as LeRoy Neiman and Peter Max will also be on display.
In addition, a framed piece highlighting the graphic and the poem written by Maya Angelou for the Games in Atlanta will be a part of the exhibit, accompanied by a CD of Ms. Angelou reading her work.
“This exhibit will truly be a memorable experience,” said Parker. “It beautifully depicts the games, competition, and spirit of the Olympics, and we at LU-Belleville are thrilled to showcase it.”
