ALBUQUERQUE, NM--The Lindenwood University men's soccer team lost a 4-3 battle Friday, Nov. 17 with St. Gregory, Okla. in their first-ever appearance in the NAIA National Soccer Championships.
The Lions, who finish the season 19-4-1, opened the scoring first when Nesa Stefanovic scored his 46th goal of the year at 33:58. But St. Gregory's own super scorer, Jerry Press evened things 20 minutes later.
Press would score a total of four goals in the game to single-handedly hold off Lindenwood. Mike Scaglione scored to make it 4-2 and Stefanovic added his 47th of the year with 5:35 left. But the Lions ran out of time.
To earn the trip to Albuquerque, Coach Carl Hutter's Lions defeated Park University to with the Region V championship.
