Top Student-Athletes, Teams to be Honored January 28

The Lindenwood Athletics Department will hold a Student-Athlete Achievement night on Thursday, January 28, during the basketball doubleheader versus Culver-Stockton. Lindenwood will honor the accomplishments both on and off the court of its athletic program during the 2009 calendar year.

Among the teams honored that night will be six national championship programs, including first-time national championship men’s volleyball and men’s ice hockey teams. Other national championship squads were Lion Line dance, men’s wrestling, clay target shooting and women’s ice hockey.

Among other top accomplishments were 19 programs winning conference championships and three programs having national runner-up finishes, including the 2009 Lindenwood football team. The school’s student-athletes also received numerous academic awards during the season from their different national organizations.

As an athletic department, Lindenwood finished third in the NACDA Directors’ Cup standings during the last school year. It is the 10th time in the last 11 years that Lindenwood has had a top five finish in these standings which ranks the top overall athletic departments in the NAIA according to their results in postseason play.

The Lady Lions’ game against Culver-Stockton will tipoff at 5:30 p.m. that night, and the men’s game will follow at approximately 7:30 p.m. The athlete recognition ceremonies will take place during halftime of the two games.
