One of two teams from Lindenwood University placed fourth in a field of 36 teams in the 2015 Missouri Collegiate Mathematics Competition, held recently at Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, Mo.
The team, consisting of seniors Dan Coker, Brian Stearns, and Alex Richter, trailed only a pair of teams from Washington University and a team from Truman State University. The overall field included teams from 20 colleges and universities from throughout the state, including Saint Louis University, University of Central Missouri, University of Missouri—Kansas City, and Missouri University of Science and Technology.
The competition is held prior to the annual Missouri section meeting of the Mathematical Association of America and consists of challenging mathematical problems based on differential and integral calculus, geometry, number theory, and discrete mathematics. Lindenwood began participating in the competition last year.
“The Department of Mathematics is proud of the achievement of our team,” said Dr. Wojciech Golik, chair of the Mathematics Department at Lindenwood. “Our students showed a great deal of talent, hard work, and dedication in preparing for the competition. Their performance is a reflection of the quality of the Lindenwood mathematics program.”
