300 Attend Welcome Center Groundbreaking, Anniversary Event

More than 300 alumni, friends, students, and community leaders attended an anniversary celebration Wednesday for Lindenwood University's Belleville Campus, which included a groundbreaking for Lindenwood's new Welcome Center.

Vice President Jerry Bladdick emceed the event, which included a ceremonial groundbreaking featuring Lindenwood President James D. Evans, Board of Directors Chairman Jim Shoemake, County Board Chairman Mark Kern, Belleville Mayor Mark Eckert, Carolyn Green from William B. Ittner, Inc., and Mary Radcliff, associate vice president at Lindenwood University-Belleville.

"Lindenwood is a very welcoming community and I think it is only appropriate that our first construction project is a welcome center," said Bladdick. "We are honored to have such wonderful support from the community."

Lindenwood’s 3,000-square-foot Welcome Center will be attached to the school’s auditorium, which itself underwent a full renovation in 2005 and is currently used to host community performances and social events. The center will feature an expanded lobby area, additional restrooms, a small café, and exhibition and reception space upon its completion in 2010.
