Belleville Student Academic Awards Announced for 2020

Traditionally, Lindenwood University holds its Honors Convocation toward the end of April to announce and celebrate the winners of its awards for academics. Although the Covid-19 pandemic prohibits the in-person event, Lindenwood is pleased to announce this year’s award winners at Lindenwood University—Belleville.

EASTON AWARD

Desiree Love, Psychology
This award, named in honor of Lindenwood University founder Mary Easton Sibley, is given to a senior student who exhibits exemplary achievement by successfully pursuing excellence in academic and extracurricular activities.

SIBLEY AWARD

Bramwell Chevai, Sports Management
This award, named in honor of Lindenwood University founder George C. Sibley, is given to a senior student who demonstrates strong leadership and service to the university and community while maintaining a record of academic excellence.

UNDERGRADUATE BUSINESS STUDENT OF THE YEAR

Stephanie Williams, Business Administration
This award is given to a major in the Division of Business and Entrepreneurship who demonstrates scholarship; leadership in the classroom, on campus, and in the community; and personal excellence in the study and practice of business.

EDUCATION STUDENT OF THE YEAR

William K. Johnson, Education, Graduate Level
This award is based on academic performance in the classroom as well as service to the community and university. Undergraduate and graduate education majors are eligible, but the recipient must be in the last year of studies.

COUNSELING STUDENT OF THE YEAR

Todd Link, Professional Counseling, Graduate Level
The recipient demonstrates outstanding academic performance and intellectual rigor in regard to written work, discussion, and thinking abilities as demonstrated in class. The student must also engage in work above and beyond the minimum classes needed for the degree—for example, being active in community service, working in the field, or presenting research at a conference.

GARRETT C. REUTER FINE AND PERFORMING ARTS AWARD

Haracio Callirgos, Business Administration and Acting
This award is open to any full-time undergraduate student who attends Lindenwood University-Belleville and distinguishes himself or herself through the performing arts. Volunteer work related to the arts will also be taken into consideration.

OUTSTANDING HUMANITIES STUDENT

Lauren Skorcz, History
The award recognizes the general academic excellence of a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in the humanities, especially the student’s classroom presence and written work. Consideration is also given to extracurricular activities related to the humanities, collegial interaction with peers, and engagement in humanities-related events on campus.

FRANK WATSON POLITICAL SCIENCE AWARD FOR LEADERSHIP AND PUBLIC SERVICE

Lauren Skorcz, History
This award is given to an undergraduate student who has demonstrated excellence in the study of history and related fields. Students may be chosen if they demonstrate excellence in civic activism.

SCIENCES RESEARCHER AWARD

Gloria Luna, Biology
This award is given to a student who has declared a major in the field of natural sciences and has performed a research project within the last academic year that demonstrates the ability to do thorough and detailed background research, study an innovative and original hypothesis, perform data analysis of results, and follow-through with a formal written or oral presentation.

SCIENCES SCHOLAR AWARD

Carley Stigall, Exercise Science
The student who receives this award has a major in the natural sciences and has demonstrated outstanding academic performance and intellectual rigor in science classes as determined by the department faculty. Outstanding academic performance may include, but is not limited to, course grades as well as writing, discussing, and thinking abilities as demonstrated in class.

OUTSTANDING PSYCHOLOGY STUDENT OF THE YEAR

Katheryn “Katie” Landsbaum, Psychology
The student who receives this award must be a full-time student and psychology major of junior or senior standing. The student must demonstrate outstanding academic performance in regard to grades earned in psychology classes, as well as writing, discussing, and thinking abilities as demonstrated in class. The student must also show dedication to the department or major by engaging in work above and beyond the minimum classes needed for the major.

OUTSTANDING CRIMINAL JUSTICE MAJOR

Naomi Oudshoorn, Criminology and Criminal Justice
This award is given to a junior or senior criminal justice major whose academic transcript demonstrates excellence in the classroom. The student also demonstrates outstanding academic performance and intellectual rigor by interacting well with other students, participating in class discussions, being an active member in relevant clubs and organizations, holding leadership positions on campus, and participating in community service.
