Lindenwood alumnus Ira Hughes was recently named the latest diversity fellow at MP&F Strategic Communications, a full-service strategic communications and public relations firm in Nashville, Tenn.
Hughes graduated in December 2017 with a degree in public relations and advertising with a concentration in corporate communications. The native of Plainfield, Ill., was a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America, the Advertising Club of Greater Saint Louis, and the American Advertising Federation. He was also a member and vice president of the Lindenwood chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
A release by MP&F states the Diversity Fellowship prepares current students and recent graduates from diverse backgrounds for careers in public relations, marketing, and strategic communications. Diversity fellows participate in MP&F’s mentorship and professional development programs while gaining work experience in areas such as research, media relations, project management, and digital communication. The highly competitive program allows fellows to learn and explore communications activities at MP&F for up to six months. MP&F began the program in 2015.
“MP&F is committed to creating a work environment that encourages inclusion and equality, and to doing everything we can to address the gap in representation within the communications industry,” said Alice Chapman, MP&F partner and head of the diversity and inclusion committee. “Ira is a great addition to our team and is already making contributions to our projects and clients.”
