Lindenwood University President Dennis Spellmann has been appointed to a state team that will review in February the teacher education program at William Jewell College for re-accreditation.
Spellmann was appointed to the William Jewell site review team, which will report ot the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, by the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education as part of a program that was launched in the fall of 2000.
According to the program, each DESE site review team would include the president from one of the Missouri colleges that offer teacher education programs, appointed to the team by the CBHE. Spellmann is one of the first college presidents to participate in the program. Teams consist of deans and professors from teacher education programs around the state.
Missouri colleges that offer teacher education programs must undergo such a review every five years to determine re-accreditation of their teacher program.
Lindenwood, which is among the top five teacher education institutions in Missouri, will undergo its DESE re-accreditation review in the spring. The William Jewell review will take place February 3-7. William Jewell is in Liberty, Mo.
