School of Health Sciences Donates Personal Protective Equipment to SSM Health

Lindenwood University’s Department of Paramedicine and School of Health Sciences has donated hundreds of masks, gloves, and scrubs to SSM Health to help address shortages in personal protective equipment faced by area healthcare providers.

The university donated 6,500 pairs of gloves, 130 pairs of scrubs, and 600 face masks; the donated materials were picked up on Thursday, April 9.

"Seeing that our community was in need of essential personal protective equipment, we were happy to lend a hand where we could,” said Darrell DeMartino, Lindenwood’s co-director of paramedicine and program director for nursing. “Helping each other, our clinical partners, and the healthcare community is what our university stands for, particularly in this time of need.”

SSM Health is a partner organization with Lindenwood University.

supplies“Our partners are there to help us educate our students, and we stand to help them when we are able,” DeMartino said. “We are all working through this pandemic together. It will take cooperation, collaboration, and a team attitude.”

SSM Health Regional Vice President Candace Jennings expressed gratitude for the donation.

“We are so grateful for partners like Lindenwood University, who recognize a need in our community and so graciously contribute to fill it,” said Jennings. “This very generous donation will allow our caregivers to continue providing exceptional care while protecting their own safety as well.”

Lindenwood University’s School of Health Sciences offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees, including paramedicine and public health, as well as athletic training, exercise science, physical education, health, and recreation and pre-professional programs in various healthcare fields.
