University Recognized for Community Involvement in 2014

The City of Belleville and Belleville Christkindlmarkt awarded Lindenwood University-Belleville a certificate of appreciation for community spirit and sponsorship of the inaugural Belleville Christkindlmarkt and the 2014 Belleville Bicentennial.

Mary Reuter, assistant vice president and executive director for community relations at Lindenwood, accepted the certificate at the Belleville City Hall meeting on Jan. 20.

“Lindenwood is honored to be part of a community with such a rich culture and history, and we were delighted to help bring a new tradition to the City of Belleville,” said Reuter.

As part of the city’s 2014 Bicentennial celebrations, the Belleville Christkindlmarkt, or German Christmas Market, was held throughout December. Featuring a wide variety of unique crafts, gifts, and authentic German cakes and cookies, the open-air Christmas market paid tribute to Belleville’s German heritage and will be an annual event.
