St. Charles Mayor Sally Faith recently announced the city’s Community Development Department has issued a construction permit to SSM Health for the construction of a new U.S. Postal Service Office in the University Commons development across First Capitol Drive from Lindenwood University on 3.83 acres of land donated by the university.
“Lindenwood has been working with the City, SSM, DESCO, and the USPS for multiple years to relocate the Post Office to the University Commons,” said Julie Mueller, Lindenwood’s vice president for operations and finance. “I am delighted the construction will commence soon. University Commons will be enhanced by the relocation of the Post Office, and it will be very convenient for our students, faculty, staff, and the community.”
Faith echoed that sentiment.
“I am thrilled to see this action take place,” Faith stated. “It is a clear indication the Fifth Street Post Office relocation project will become a reality. It further shows the partnership between the city, Lindenwood University, SSM, and DESCO Development is producing a great return for the taxpayers of the community.”
The new Post Office project is a key component to the planned First Capitol/Fifth Street Hospital District. Once the new facility is completed, USPS employees will move to the new state-of-the-art building while SSM will take ownership of the old facility. This is part of an overall site improvement program initiated by the healthcare leader and city.
“University Commons has been a great addition to the city, county and region and will continue to benefit the area for years to come,” Faith added. “I commend the leadership of SSM for their continued effort to improve the city and our region’s healthcare.”
