All students seeking certification as a school counselor must complete a Missouri or Illinois Standards in Foliotek. Foliotek is a primary tool used to assess student attainment of Program standards. The primary components of the Foliotek include artifacts and reflections for the 5 MOSPE Standards and 23 Illinois Standards. Missouri or Illinois school counseling content exams, evaluations, and a resume. In addition, Illinois students must pass the Test of Academic Proficiency prior to entry into Field Placement 1. The Foliotek is completed electronically using Foliotek, an online Foliotek management system. Due to the complexity of the Foliotek, students are encouraged to develop their Foliotek project throughout their program of study.

Students seeking endorsement as a School Counselor in Illinois must successfully complete the Illinois Content Assessment (test code 181). Passing the content assessment is a graduation requirement and part of the student's Foliotek. To register or obtain study guides for the Illinois School Counseling Content Test, students should visit their website.
In addition, prior to Field Placement 1 enrollment, Illinois school counseling candidates must pass the Test of Academic Proficiency and may register online. The tests 400, 401, 402, and 403 are endorsement requirements, also.
