Kinesiology Department

College of Science, Technology, and Health NAVIGATION

Kinesiology is the study of human movement, performance, and function. Students will explore foundational sciences, including anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, nutrition, and motor behavior. Students will also study the psychological and sociological aspects of physical activity and its implication on one’s physical well-being to improve health, function, and performance.

The Department of Kinesiology is housed in the College of Science, Technology, and Health and provides students with opportunities to pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees through a variety of programs. Undergraduate students can explore health and function from multiple perspectives and choose to major in Exercise Science, Fitness and Wellness Management, Physical Education, and Therapeutic Recreation. Graduate students can earn a degree in Health Sciences with a concentration in Fitness and Wellness; Healthcare Administration; or Sport Science and Performance.

Programs offered in the Department of Kinesiology will prepare students for a broad range of professional careers in a variety of industries, including rehabilitation, health promotion, fitness and wellness, human performance, and recreation. The department provides academic preparation and individualized support for students interested in advanced degrees in allied health and other medical-related professional programs (e.g. physical therapy, occupational therapy, athletic training, nursing, medicine, physician assistant, and chiropractic medicine). The Department of Kinesiology also offers several academic minors such as Adapted Sport and Recreation, Coaching, Health and Wellness, Nutrition, Pre-Athletic Training, and Strength & Conditioning.

The faculty in the Department of Kinesiology are dedicated to the education and overall development of each student. All students will have opportunities to participate in experiential learning throughout their selected program, and students are encouraged to become involved in professional organizations and community activities that support their education and professional development.
