Psychology students engage in a variety of service learning projects through events hosted by student organizations as well as for class projects.
Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, social psychology students complete an assignment examining different compliance strategies (e.g., foot-in-door, door-in-the-face) to raise funds for the Saint Louis Crisis Nursery. This assignment not only compares the effectiveness of compliance strategies but also raises money for a charity the class chooses. Past charities include United Way, St. Jude’s Hospital, Doctors without Borders, Convoy of Hope, Stoneman Douglas Victim Fund for the Florida School Shooting, and most recently, for the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) and the Polaris Project.
Students serve the community through their involvement in student organizations.
