Deadline for fall 2014 Student Teaching Application is January 31, 2014!

ATTENTION STUDENT TEACHER APPLICANTS: As of summer 2013, all student teacher applicants will be required to obtain a substitute certification through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in order to receive placement in a school district. This will make the placement process more efficient and will be in accordance with the new laws pertaining to fingerprinting background checks and dissemination of fingerprints to DESE. Proof of the substitute certificate will need to be uploaded to Foliotek as a part of the student teaching application. This is in addition to other application components that are required in order for a placement request to be sent out to a school district. As of July 1, 2013, there will be a processing fee of $50 for the substitute applications.

The student teaching application process is now completely electronic. Students will submit all components through Foliotek, and will then send the request for review to Tammy Moore. After reviewing the item, the application component(s) will be accepted or rejected with comments. Only completed applications will be accepted, at which point, a request for placement can be made in a school district.

"Teaching and Leading as an Art and a Science"
The School of Education agrees that the general outcome of the teacher education program must be teaching professionals that believe and implement teaching as a blend of “Art” and “Science” as represented by the Beauty and Mechanism of the Spellmann Clock Tower… Teaching as an art because teaching is a craft that must be learned and applied in an authentic environment. Teaching as a science because it must be influenced by research and best practice for optimal student learning to be achieved.
