Art and Design (BA/BFA)

The Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art and Design degree program prepares students for a range of creative careers. Beginning with strong foundational principles of design, students have a well-rounded course of study with photography, video, web design, and art history, and are then provided the flexibility to study in an area of their choosing. This St. Louis art and design degree is ideal for students who wish to double major or diversify their skills with additional minors and whose educational goal is a major in art and design that incorporates more substantive study in the liberal arts than the Bachelor of Fine Arts allows. Like the BFA program, the BA in art and design program focuses on creativity, problem solving, project development and teamwork, and mastery of technique and craftsmanship, while providing the interdisciplinary perspective necessary to succeed in today's art and design fields.

Required Equipment

The art and design bachelor's degree program has immersive reality technologies integrated throughout the curriculum and requires use of a virtual reality headset as identified by the department and associated applications. Immersive realities, such as virtual reality, provide a fully immersive educational experience that leads to greater engagement and understanding of subjects covered in classes. Students are not only able to engage with the material, other students, and their instructor; they also can better understand the context of those relationships while immersed in the virtual environment. These experiences support the learning outcomes for the program and prepare students for use of these technologies in their professions.
