Course Description

This workshop course focuses on the ways that reading, writing, and critically engaging in a variety of possible genres (fiction, poetry, nonfiction, scriptwriting) strengthens us as writers and critique partners. Through exploring authorial intent, implied reader, genre conventions and expectations, participants will learn to think more deeply about their pieces chosen form, presentation, and audience, as well as consider possibilities for their projects for deeper development, as they refine written and oral communication skills.

Students will focus on the creation and discussion of original pieces (fiction, nonfiction, script, or poetry of 10-15 pages), consider their chosen form, influences, and audience. Coursework includes live weekly discussions that will include feedback on workshop pieces, in addition to supplemental Canvas discussions and assignments.
