Course Description

America (since before it was America) has always been a mobile culture. People move easily from city to city and region to region. The same is true for poets and American poetry. In this course, we will explore what place can tell us about American poetry, and what poetry can tell us about America and its various regions. This workshop will provide some place-focused work by poets from the mid-20th century to the present that will feed our own writing. We’ll workshop our own poems rooted in our own home places past and present. We will leverage the geographical diversity of our online classroom community to learn more about how each of us brings our own places to the page.
