Course Description

Dinty W. Moore and the Flash Essay: This online workshop will focus on personal narrative essays in flash form.

First, what exactly is a flash essay? How is it different from a regular personal narrative essay? What are the ingredients of a good flash essay?

In this course, and we’ll read and dissect several flash essay examples through renowned essayist Dinty W. Moore’s literary journal Brevity. In addition to reading, each student will submit 4 flash essays in two workshop sessions (2 flash essays per sessions, any topic) to receive rigorous feedback from peers and the instructor, and students will read and respond to 2-4 peer submissions per week.

The goal of this workshop is for each student to finish the course with four polished flash essays.
